What is Gonadorelin?

Gonadorelin, also known as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), is a naturally occurring peptide hormone essential for regulating reproductive function. Produced in the hypothalamus, it stimulates the pituitary gland to release gonadotropins—specifically luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These gonadotropins are crucial for the function of the gonads (testes in males and ovaries in females).

In both genders, Gonadorelin triggers hormonal events necessary for developing and maintaining reproductive tissues and producing sex hormones. In males, it stimulates LH release, prompting testosterone production in the testes. In females, Gonadorelin induces both LH and FSH release, which are vital for ovarian follicle maturation and the production of estrogen and progesterone.

Synthetic Gonadorelin or its analogs can be administered to assess pituitary and gonadal axis function or induce controlled ovulation in assisted reproductive technologies. Additionally, Gonadorelin agonists or antagonists are used to manage conditions such as precocious puberty, infertility, and certain hormone-sensitive cancers.
